ABU DHABI // This week’s sermon focuses on Israa and Miraj, one of the many miracles attributed to the Prophet Mohammed.
Worshippers will hear that the journey, which is marked with a public holiday on Saturday, was a way for the Prophet Mohammed to respect and honour his mercy for his people.
Israa and Miraj has great meanings and teaches important lessons, as this was the journey that led to the purification of the Prophet’s heart.
As Malik bin Sasaa narrates in a hadith, the Prophet Mohammed said: “While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, [an angel recognised me] as the man lying between two men.
“A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the abdomen, and then my abdomen was washed with Zamzam water and [my heart was] filled with wisdom and belief.”
During the journey of Israa and Miraj, the Prophet Mohammed saw the great meanings of Allah, the sermon continues.
“He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord,” the Quran says. “For the Prophet saw Paradise and Hell, and saw the good people who have preserved their good deeds and avoided the disadvantages of ethics.
“Prophet Mohammed saw the penalty of those who spoke ill of others.”
The sermon says the Prophets provide the best examples on the sincerity of faith, and they are the best role models. It urges Muslims to follow the Prophets’ paths and learn as much as they can about their history.
