Residents are urged to be aware of fire hazards during Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
Check the safety of gas and electric cookers and all gas pipes and wiring, and families are advised to keep children out of the kitchen while adults are cooking.
The warnings came from Maj Gen Rashed Thani Al Matrushi, interim commander general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence.
He also highlighted the importance of cleaning kitchen fans, of having adequate lighting in kitchens, and of not wearing loose clothing while cooking.
Maj Al Matrushi said paper towels should be kept away from cookers, and special attention should be paid to children to ensure they were kept away from potential dangers such as lighters, matches, pesticides or toxic cleaning substances.
Incense burners can cause fires if placed near clothes or children, while other dangers include lighted candles near flammable materials and the use of grills in enclosed spaces.
Residents were also reminded not to overload power lines.
Motorists have been asked to keep fire extinguishers in their cars, while people planning camping trips should ensure tents were put up in safe locations - with phone coverage and close to roads - to help Civil Defence officials reach the area in an emergency.
Liquid fuel-powered generators should be kept at a safe distance from tents and should not be refuelled while in operation.
Maj Al Matrushi said fire extinguishers must be made available, along with sand buckets in case of fire. He urged campers to have a first-aid kit and to inform friends or family when and where they were camping.
He also reminded the public to ensure that vehicles were roadworthy before undertaking a trip.
