WASHINGTON // The UAE Ambassador to the United States has urged a “thorough, transparent and timely investigation” into the death of Emirati student Saif Al Ameri, who was shot dead by a police officer in Ohio last week.

In a telephone call to state governor John Kasich, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba also expressed his thanks for the cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Washington and consulate general in Boston.

The Embassy offered its deepest condolences to the family. It said it was in close contact with them and had “done its best to provide support and assistance to them during this difficult time”.

On Friday, officials from Abu Dhabi Police joined a consular team in Hudson, Ohio, to represent the Al Ameri family. They met state investigators, the medical examiner and the Hudson chief of police.

Al Ameri, 26, was a law student at Case Western Reserve University.
