Underprivileged families in Ras Al Khaimah are being given sewing machines, among other items, in an attempt to curb begging.

The Dar Al Ber Society launched the initiative, My Little Project, which will see beneficiaries receive help in setting up small businesses.

The aim is to allow families to be self-dependent, the state news agency Wam reported.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, director of the society, said the goal was to ease the suffering of people in need.

“The departments concerned make sure that the approved assistance and allowance are only contributed to the eligible beneficiaries according to the legal and right procedures,” he said.
