ABU DHABI // Two men have been charged with killing a prostitute by smashing her over the head with a bottle and strangling her.
The criminal court heard on Monday that the two men, from Bangladesh, arranged to meet the victim at an address on Hamdan Street earlier this year.
The victim had a reputation for prostitution and was previously arrested by CID, and released on bail on October 6th.
While she was out on bail the first defendant, MM, called her to set an appointment and took his friend, JS, with him, explained the CID witness Ateeq Al Kaabi.
She told them she was at Hamdan street and there were records of nine calls between them before the incident.
After they arrived they went to her flat in the tourist club area, after confirming there was no one there, they started committing sex out of wedlock.
“Then they got an idea to steal money from her purse, they thought she is a prostitute and has a lot of cash while they were jobless and penniless,” explained the officer.
“They also did not pay her the full amount they had agreed on.”
Then they smashed her head with the glass bottle of a Vitamin C drink and suffocated her.
While both men confessed earlier in court to their charges, they denied them on Monday’s session.
MM said he did not kill her; “we had a fight and she attacked me first.”
He claimed the victim started screaming and tried to blackmail them to pay her money, threatening to call the police, so he covered her mouth with his hand for a few minutes to silence her screams, but said he did not choke her.
JS said he entered the room and found the victim screaming and threatening to call the police, “when we left she was alive,” he said.
They both confessed to drinking alcohol.
The case was adjourned.
