New aerial footage of the Expo 2020 Dubai site has shown rapid progress on scores of buildings and the extension to the Dubai Metro.

A drone captured the extent of the work now under way on the 4.3 sq km site to the south of the city.

Al Wasl Plaza at the heart of the development is under construction. It is an open garden space with a domed transparent trellis attached to buildings on four sides.

Construction work on the Sustainability Pavilion has also begun, with images showing a round structure with deep foundations.

During the six month event it will display the latest technology designed to cut waste and improve efficiency.

A section of the new metro line also appears to be progressing.

Developers said work "quickens every day as we prepare for October 2020".
