SHARJAH // Visitors to Al Safiya park and the surrounding area in Al Majaz 3 will have to pay for parking from Wednesday onwards, Sharjah Municipality has said.
Complaints from residents about the lack of parking spaces led to the change, said Atif Al Zarouni, director of public parking at the municipality.
“Random parking has plagued the area and we received numerous complaints from residents who have had a hard time finding a parking spot near their home.
“A lot of car owners park their cars in that area for long periods of time, which causes problems for the residents.”
Drivers who leave their cars for more than three days with an expired parking ticket will have the vehicle impounded. Impounded cars are charged at Dh150 per day.
The municipality has plans to also introduce paid parking areas around Sharjah’s central souq and Al Jubeil market areas.
Mr Al Zarouni urged residents to park cars correctly to avoid fines.
An SMS parking payment option is available, whereby motorists can text 5566 from their mobile phones to pay for parking.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Moral education lessons for young people is needed in a rapidly changing world, the head of the programme said.
