Two dead on Sharjah’s roads during Eid Al Fitr

SHARJAH // Two men died in traffic incidents during the Eid Al Fitr holiday in Sharjah.

According to statistics released by Sharjah Traffic Police, three severe car crashes occurred during the break, resulting in the deaths of two Asian men.

Excessive speed and improper passing of motorists were blamed for the crashes, police said.

“Carelessness of motorists and pedestrians are the major factors in these tragic accidents,” said Colonel Shawaf Abdul Rahman, director of Sharjah Traffic Police.

However, he added that the number of incidents has drastically reduced recently, due to strict enforcement of road rules and an awareness campaign in the emirate.

Col Abdul Rahman urged motorists to adhere to the traffic rules and drive responsibly.

“We urge motorists to stop using their cell phones while driving, and to keep vigilant at all times,” he said.
