More than 20 new radars are being installed at junctions and main roads around Ras Al Khaimah as part of efforts to curb speed and red-light running accidents.
Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Chief of RAK Police, said the 23 new radars would be operational in the coming days, adding that they will help catch red-light jumpers and speeding motorists and also film accidents at intersections.
Maj Gen Al Nuaimi noted that according to the latest report released by the Traffic Department, there were 247 offences involving running a red light in 2014 and 77 in the first quarter of this year, reported Al Ittihad the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
