Traffic was brought to a standstill on Sheikh Zayed Road this morning after a Mercedes G-Class SUV burst into flames.
Witnesses reported seeing the burning 4x4, which had been reduced to a shell, at the side of the road just past Ghantoot en route to Abu Dhabi at around 8am.
The Waze traffic app reported a “major accident,” it is not known why the car caught fire.
The car was towed away by 8.45am, but traffic remained at a standstill and was building behind it.
Police are still on the scene.
