Sharjah // A spate of speed-related accidents claimed the lives of three people in Sharjah and Umm al Qaiwain yesterday.
An Indian cyclist died after being hit by a speeding truck in Sharjah's Industrial Area 2 at about 7am, police said.
The body was transferred to Al Qassimi Hospital and the speeding driver was held later in the day.
In a separate accident in Sharjah, an Emirati woman identified by police as Hazza, 20, died after her car hit the road median and overturned on Al Dhaid Road at 7am. Her 17-year-old brother was in the car and sustained serious injuries.
The siblings were taken to Al Dhaid Hospital, but Hazza died en route.
Her brother yesterday remained in a critical condition. Police also blamed the accident on speeding.
In Umm al Qaiwain, an Emirati man died after his car hit a mosque wall and caught fire in the Al Soor area.
The accident happened at about 3am, according to Col Seif Salim, the director of the traffic department at Salma police station. "The main cause of the accident was speeding and not paying enough attention on the road," he said.
