Sharjah to compensate owners of old taxi number plates

Authority to pay out Dh41.3 million annually to help owners of old taxi number plates lead a decent life.

SHARJAH // A sum of Dh41.3 million is to be paid each year by the Roads and Transport Authority as compensation to owners of old taxi number plates.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, director of Sharjah RTA’s Transport Affairs, said that owners of old taxi plates will receive a monthly sum of Dh500 for taxis operating in the inner city roads and Dh1,000 for those in outer roads and the airport.

The RTA in Sharjah began this month making payments to the 5,086 eligible Emiratis, Mr Al Jarwan said.

The compensation shows how keen the RTA is to help owners of old taxi number plates lead a decent life, Mr Al Jarwan said.
