RTA announces safety changes along tram route in Dubai

Left turns and U-turns by vehicles will be blocked at five key junctions.

Left turns have been blocked at five key junctions along the tram route in Dubai following fresh safety measures announced by the Roads and Transport Authority on Tuesday.

The preventive measures will help improve safety at signal junctions where the tram route overlaps with vehicular traffic.

The steps also include blocking U-turns at junctions where traffic runs parallel to the tram.

“The RTA has recently conducted a comprehensive study through a specialist international consultancy firm to assess the current situation as regards the overlapping tram and vehicular traffic at six junctions at the Marina and the JBR,” said Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA.

“Based on the findings of the study, the RTA has endorsed the blocking of leftward turns and U-turns in five junctions,” he said.

There will be no major negative effect on traffic movement or delays due to the closures, he said.

The left turns that will be blocked are the junctions of Al Sayoorah Street with Marina Street, Al Safouh Street to Al Sayoorah Street East, Al Safouh Street with Al Gharbi Street, the Marina Street and Al Sharta Street junction and the Marina Street junction with Al Safouh Street.
