Al Ain traffic and patrols department impounded 489 vehicles and revoked 90 driving licences last month, as part of an enforcement campaign.
The department is stepping up patrols on Al Ain city roads and motorways as spring break draws nearer, said Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, head of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Directorate.
He called on motorists, especially young people, to abide by traffic rules, avoid speeding, running red lights and using mobile phones while driving.
Young people between 18 and 30 caused about 53 per cent of traffic accidents in Al Ain last year.
