A motorcyclist who became sleepy while riding ended up losing his leg after being involved in an accident in Dubai on Thursday.

The Dubai Police command and control room received a report of the incident at 2.45pm.

The accident happened on Al Sarayat Street towards Al Khail first street, a Dubai Police source said. 
"Initial investigations showed that the biker [dozed off] and rammed his vehicle into the pavement," the source said.

"As a result of the crash, he lost his leg." 
Personal details, such as the age and nationality of the driver, was unknown but ambulance crew rushed him to hospital to be treated.

In another incident on Thursday, an Egyptian woman was run over by a motorist along Al Wasl road, just past the Al Manara intersection. 
Police received news of the accident at 3.30pm. She was taken to hospital with severe injuries.
