Mother and child killed in Salalah crash laid to rest in Dubai

The mother and son - Zainab Al Mulla, 44, and Khaled Abdullwahab Al Qaed, 19 - were killed when their car hit a Saudi car on the one-lane road to Salalah, in Qarn Al Alam, Adam province, at about 8pm on Tuesday.

The children who survived a horror crash in Oman in which their mother and older brother died are in shock, their aunt said yesterday.

Zainab Al Mulla, 44, a mother of six, was driving and four of her children were injured in the back of the car, while Khaled Abdullwahab Al Qaed, 19, who was in the front passenger seat, was also killed.

Her eldest son, Hammad, 21, did not make the trip because he was doing National Service.

Hamda Al Qaed, Al Mulla’s sister-in-law, was among the mourners at the funeral at Al Qusais cemetery in Dubai yesterday.

She said: “The children are grieving the death of their mother and brother.

“The seven-year-old child keeps on telling us what happened and says, ‘my mother and brother are in heaven’,” Mrs Al Qaed said.

“The four-year-old suffered a broken leg, the seven-year-old suffered a shoulder dislocation and a small cut on his head.

“The 15-year-old suffered bruises on his ribs and the 11-year-old boy was asleep during the accident and didn’t sustain any injuries. Their ­father, Abdullwahad Al Qaed, was busy at work and could not travel with them.”

Mrs Al Qaed added: “My sister-in-law was driving her Nissan Patrol in Qarn Al Alam, planning to spend a few days in Oman with her five children. Her eldest son Hammad couldn’t join them for the trip.

“The children told us that Omani police helped them toget out of the car.”

Al Mulla and Khaled were killed when their 4x4 hit a Saudi car on the one-lane road to Salalah in Qarn Al Alam, Adam province, at about 8pm on Tuesday.

A passenger was also killed in the Saudi car.

Mrs Al Qaed said Khalid was a studying at the Higher Colleges of Technology. “He was a friendly person who appreciated time spent with his family. He was extremely attached to his mother and they used to hang out with each other most of the time,” she said.

The eldest son, Hammad, was so overwhelmed that he was barely able to speak or express his feelings.

“Hammad was planning to go with his family to Oman but could not because he’s committed to his work in the military,” she said.

Safya, Al Mulla’s sister, said: “Zainab was unbelievably kind and generous.

“She used to donate money and clothes to the poor most of the time.”

Ms Al Mulla, 46, said she used to enjoy performing Umrah with her sister.

“We used to go almost every year. We pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the patience and solace to bear their loss,” she said.

“Before the horrific accident, Zainab started a new project. The project involved cooking food and selling it and she had a page on Instagram offering different kinds of dishes.”

Ms Al Mulla said it is now her duty to take care of her sister’s children.

“I, along with my sister’s husband’s family, will look after the children and give them all the attention they need,” she said.

“They get along with my children, especially as they used to spend a lot of time with each other.”
