ABU DHABI // A mother and her 3-month-old son were killed when the car they were travelling in jumped a red light in Ras Al Khaimah.
The 30-year-old, from an Arab country, and her child died while four other people, including the victim’s two other children, were seriously injured in the accident in Rams on Tuesday.
Colonel Salim Rashid Rabia’a, director of Al Ras police station, said the woman was a passenger in a car driven by her 36-year-old husband, also Arab, along with their three sons, aged 3 months, 3 years, and 7.
The father failed to stop at a red light and collided with a vehicle being driven by a 30-year-old Emirati, who was seriously hurt in the accident.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Hamidi, director general of Central Operations at RAK Police, warned the public about the consequences of running a red light and that legal action will be take against those who do so
The injured were taken to hospital for treatment. The bodies of the mother and her baby were taken to hospital before being handed over to their family for burial.
