DUBAI // Heavy traffic has been reported near Jebel Ali, causing congestion for commuters traveling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

The cause of the congestion is so far unclear, but Twitter users posted pictures of a car on the hard shoulder which was badly damaged in an accident involving about three vehicles.

Dubai Police tweeted this morning: “An accident has been reported on Sheikh Zayed Rd. between 7th and 8th bridges and there is congestion. Please drive carefully.”

The traffic was reported to be particularly heavy between Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Energy Metro station, near Jebel Ali.

It is the second accident this week in the same area. On Monday morning, a pile-up near Jebel Ali caused a traffic jam that caused many motorists to add hours onto their journey.

One Twitter user wrote on Wednesday morning: “Second accident this week on SZR. What’s wrong with people?”
