For a great weekend, some things to know before you go

How to pick up tickets at the last minute, get to the track and get into your seat on time.

Racegoers who have not yet received their tickets can pick them up from the Etihad Airways headquarters near the Yas Island exit on the E11 highway, Dubai-bound.

Free park-and-ride buses will leave from Shahama and Zayed Sports City. Taxis will be allowed to drop fans off in the car parks, from where there will be a shuttle bus to the track.

After the events, taxis will be waiting in the car parks to bring you into the city. The fare is higher than usual, though - journeys between Yas and the mainland this weekend are subject to a flagfall charge of Dh20 and a rate of Dh1.50 per kilometre.

Buses will run between the circuit and Abu Dhabi Island.

Those with two or more tickets should have parking permits, which they will need to enter the car parks. Overnight parking is banned - cars will be towed after 1am.

Anyone with a seat in the South or West Grandstands, or the Support Pit, should get off at the first or second bus stop on all buses. Anyone in the North or Main Grandstands should get off at the third stop.

No food or drink can be taken into the site. Both are available inside, with burgers, fish-and-chips and refreshments available. Also banned are flags longer than one metre, pets other than guide dogs, bicycles, fireworks, firearms, bugles and prams. A full list can be found on yasmarinacircuit.com. Smoking is banned in the grandstands and inside all buildings on Yas Island.

You may want to bring some sunscreen. There will be a wide range of F1 hats on sale. There is plenty of shade in the stands and the new Oasis centres, but sunglasses will cut the glare as the sun sets.

Ear plugs will be handed out free at the gates - take them. It gets very noisy. For the best view, bring binoculars. There are giant screens around the track, but fans wanting more can rent handheld televisions from the F1 Village. They cost Dh300 per day or Dh450 for three days.
