A major road for goods deliveries between the emirates is to be expanded to improve access to the Expo 2020 Dubai site.
Work has begun to make the E75 a dual carriageway and is set to be finished by mid-2020.
The route through the desert is one of the main truck roads between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
It joins the Dubai-Abu Dhabi road and adjacent E311 near Ghantoot and Al Ghadeer village.
Abu Dhabi's transport agency, the Integrated Transport Centre and the publicly-owned infrastructure builder Musanada, said the project will cost about Dh100 million.
More than 100 engineers and consultants are working on the project.
The work includes the extension of an underpass for camels and replacing the existing roundabout at Al Ghadeer with a new one for better access.
Access for goods, expo staff and visitors will be crucial during the six month event.
The government estimates 25 million people will visit the expo between October 2020 and April 2021.
The sprawling site in south Dubai will accommodate more than 200 food outlets producing 300,000 meals per day for staff and visitors.
