ABU DHABI // An engine on an Emirates airliner caught fire as the plane landed in Boston on Sunday.
The incident happened on Flight EK-237, a Boeing 777, which was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport.
The fire was quickly extinguished and none of the 349 passengers and 19 crew members on board were injured.
“Emirates can confirm that its Flight EK-237, a Boeing 777-300 ER from Dubai International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport on August 10, 2014 experienced a small engine fire on landing,” a spokesman for Emirates said.
The plane could not be used on the return journey from Boston to Dubai, causing delays in the service.
“A second Emirates Boeing 777-300 ER has been dispatched from Dubai International Airport to pick up passengers from Boston who were due to depart on EK 238 on August 10,” said the spokesman.
“This aircraft was due to land at Boston Logan at 9.40am on August 11 and depart at 11.15am.
“It is scheduled to land at Dubai International at 7.30am on August 12, a delay of 12 hours from its scheduled arrival time.”
