Almost thirty-thousand jaywalkers have been fined by Dubai Police this year.

In conclusion of phase one of the police’s Speed Kills campaign, the traffic department also revealed that several thousand speeding breaches were noted, with the most - 1,171 - in January. The least number of times a vehicle was caught going up to 60 kilometres per hour above the speed limit was in July (301).

The campaign was launched last month to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding.

Col Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the Traffic Department, said that as part of the campaign four tents were erected along Sheikh Zayed Road, at Global Village, and in Al Warqa and Jumeirah, in order to educate the public. More than 10,000 people visited the tents over the course of the campaign, police said, with 50,000 information booklets handed out.
