Dubai’s RTA start on roadworks in Business Bay

DUBAI // Work on the Parallel Road Improvement Project in Business Bay has begun, the Roads and Transport Authority said on Wednesday.

RTA said works will include the construction of roads, bridges and underpasses, with the ultimate aim of easing traffic flow in and around the area.

“The project encompasses the construction of a flyover of three lanes in each direction stretching 3.5km across the Dubai Water Canal before widening to a five-lane motorway passing over Godolphin Stables, crossing over Al Meydan Street and extending further to Al Quoz Industrial Area,” said Maitha bin Udai, the chief executive of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

“The project involves the addition of a new two-lane free traffic corridor serving vehicular movement inbound from Al Khail Road heading towards Sharjah through Al Asayel Road, stretching up to the junction with Oud Metha Road.”

She said that traffic flow will ease at the existing junction of Al Meydan and Al Khail roads, ensuring free left turns that will no longer require circling and tailbacks during rush hour.

The works are expected to finish in the last quarter of 2017.

No mention was made on the impact on traffic during the roadworks.
