Murals are being painted on the pillars holding up the Dubai Metro on the Sheikh Zayed Road as part of an initiative to add a little pizzazz to the area.

Peruvian artist Daniel Cortez and a Dominican-born, Miami-based artist who calls himself Evoca1 - but is known by the people he grew up with as Elio Mercado - are applying their designs to the columns between the International Financial Centre and Emirates Towers stations.

The new designs are part of the third phase of the Dubai Street Museum initiative that aims to transform the UAE's biggest city into an open-air gallery space.

The project comes from the Government of Dubai's creative arm, Brand Dubai.
