DUBAI // More than 250 motorcycles have been impounded in the emirate during winter for performing dangerous stunts and causing a public nuisance.

Of the 252 bikes impounded, 68 were seized in the last two weeks, while 22 recreational bikes were involved in rollover accidents that left 28 people injured, most of them females and minors.

Col Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, head of Dubai Traffic Police, said the motorcycles were seized after complaints about people riding their bikes on public roads in a manner that endangered their life and the life of others.

He said a number of the offenders were minors who were unaware that their reckless bike riding was so dangerous.

Col Al Mazroui said the 22 incidents involving bikes rolling over in desert areas were caused by riders lacking necessary skills or driving dangerously.
