Carriages set aside for women and children on Dubai Metro trains will be relocated to provide further separation from male passengers.

Pink cabins will move to the end of each train, at the opposite end from gold class, by the end of August.

At present, they are located towards the end of the central carriage, with no physical separation from mixed areas.

The city's Roads and Transport Authority announced the changes on Tuesday. Permanent women-only sections were introduced in 2015 after calls from commuters.

Prior to that, one carriage on each train was set aside for women and children during rush hour only.

Mohammed Al Mudharreb, head of rail operations, said pink signs will be placed on platforms and carriages to identify new women-only sections.

The metro is undergoing a 15km expansion to link the Expo 2020 site with the main red line.
