DUBAI // Commuters in Dubai faced severe delays on Wednesday evening after a technical fault shut down the Red Line service between Rashidiya and Jebel Ali.
Confused passengers began reporting faults at around 7:30pm, as long queues formed at stations.
“Dubai Metro service between Business Bay station and Nakheel station is non operational in both directions due to a technical issue,” the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority said on Twitter.
“We are working hard to resolve. RTA buses have been deployed between affected stations to transport passengers. We apologise for any inconvience,” it said.
A customer service representative for the RTA said they did not have details on what caused the issue, but said that teams were “trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible”.
“There has been a technical issue on the metro, the Red Line is affected and we are trying to resolve it,” the customer service agent said.
“After starting off at Emirates station the train just stopped moving at airport terminal 3,” said, Ovais M, 34, from Pakistan, who was commuting back from work on Wednesday.
“One official said she didn’t know what’s wrong, but they are working on it,” he said.
He said that there were at least around 100 people on his train when it stopped.
“Rarely something happens like this. But we weren’t given any info or updates on what’s happening and how or when it would be resolved.”
He said that the issue was largely resolved shortly before 9pm.
