DUBAI // A young Emirati will have to pay about Dh500,000 in damages after Dubai Police caught him driving recklessly and posting videos of his stunts on social media.

Police say they found the 19-year-old performing “doughnuts” on two Dubai roads in his 4x4, videoing it and then posting it on Instagram.

Complaints were made about him performing stunts on Al Qudra and Meydan roads.

The amount he has to pay was calculated by the Roads and Transport Authority for the damage he caused. He also had his licence taken away and vehicle confiscated.

Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina said such behaviour was unacceptable.

“We live in a civilised country and the Government has paid a lot of money to ensure proper roads and infrastructure,” Gen Al Muzeina said. “What are people going to think if they see skid marks on the roads? They will think there is chaos and ignorance here.”

Meanwhile, police delivered two Hyundai Veloster Turbos to the winners of the White Points system with the goal of having zero fatalities by 2020.
