DUBAI // Several companies and agents have been fined for trading diesel illegally.
An inspection campaign run jointly by various Dubai Government departments imposed the fines after several irregularities were found, including non-conformance to the standards set by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology, in addition to other violations, such as trading without the necessary permits.
Recent government reports suggest that there has been a rise in illegal diesel trade, including diesel theft.
One of the departments involved in the campaign is ENOC. Saeed Khoory, the company’s chief executive, said: “ENOC is committed to working with the concerned authorities to curb illegal trading of diesel and taking prompt action against such vendors as their activities not only cause considerable economic losses but also leave a lasting detrimental impact on the environment. Using illegal and non-compliant diesel also leads to safety hazards and affects the nation’s reputation.”
