ABU DHABI // Drivers can pay traffic and parking fines in instalments from today until August 31.

Brig Hussein Al Harthi, head of Abu Dhabi traffic police, said all branches of the force in Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Gharbia would allow drivers with at least Dh1,000 in fines for more than one offence to pay the total in two instalments.

“We hope that allowing motorists to pay their fines in two instalments will encourage them to be more compliant with the laws and regulations of the country,” Brig Al Harthy said.

He told Wam, the state news agency, that traffic laws were aimed at maintaining road safety and avoiding accidents.

Motorists can also pay fines incurred in other GCC countries, in addition to the up-front payment of 50 per cent of fines by DPT and Mawaqif.

The remaining 50 per cent should be paid within a year. Drivers using the instalments should make sure they pay all their traffic fines in other emirates.
