Discounts for RAK drivers who pay fines promptly

Motorists will have fines cut by 50 per cent if they settle their driving debt within 50 days

Settling traffic fines quickly can pay off for motorists in Ras Al Khaimah - thanks to a discount drive being led by police in the emirate.

All traffic fines paid within 50 days of being imposed are slashed in half and those paid within 80 days reduced by 30 per cent as part of the ongoing campaign by RAK Police.

RAK Police said more than 600,000 fines have been cut since the scheme was rolled out in 2015.

Maj Gen Ali Al Nuami, commander-in-chief of RAK Police, said the initiative aims to reduce the "financial burden" on motorists.

It is one of a number of ways police in the emirate having being giving motorists a financial boost.

In September 2018, the RAK force revealed that registration, renewal and ownership transfer on electric vehicles will be exempt from charges until December 31, 2021.

It is all part of an ongoing effort to increase the use of electric cars in the emirate and cut down on fuel consumption.
