AJMAN // The number of vehicles impounded by Ajman Police increased by 9 per cent last year compared to 2014.
The Ajman Police traffic and patrol department impounded 5,052 vehicles after their owners committed violations such as crossing red lights, causing severe accidents, exceeding speed limits, driving under the influence of alcohol and not renewing vehicle licences.
Police impounded 714 vehicles of motorists who crossed red lights, 507 following accidents, 373 of motorists who drove them without insurance, 272 of motorists without driving licences, and 266 of motorists who drove under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said Col Ali Al Musaibi, director of the department.
In addition, 206 vehicles were impounded for windows that were too dark and 164 for causing excess noise. Police impounded 155 vehicles over speeding violations of 60 kph over the limit and 76 over reckless driving.
