ABU DHABI // Some streets in the Corniche area will be partly closed today, from 4am to 7pm.

One direction of the Breakwater Road going towards Marina Mall will be closed from 4am to 1pm, and the Corniche Road heading towards the Emirates Palace hotel – from Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street to Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street – will be shut from 4am to 7pm.

The closures were announced yesterday by the Safety and Traffic Solutions Committee, which comprises Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport.

Roads in Abu Dhabi were partly closed last weekend, with signs on Corniche Road West indicating that filming was under way. Residents speculated on Twitter that the filming could be for Star Wars or Fast and Furious 7.

It was later reported that the filming of the Bollywood blockbuster Bang Bang had begun in the capital. A source working on the film said the Corniche was closed to the public on May 2 because a high-speed chase scene was being filmed.

A resident of Baynunah Towers on the Corniche, who watched from her flat as a sports car drove by, said the vehicle was travelling at about 80kph when the scene was shot, and other cars were frequently reversing for new takes.

The Department of Transport would not comment on the reason for today’s road closures.
