Police have identified and arrested a man seen driving dangerously overseas in a video that has spread across social media.
The man was detained after being identified by officers from the investigation department at Abu Dhabi traffic police.
Brig Gen Hussein Al Harthi, the force’s director general of central operations, said all UAE citizens driving abroad should behave as ambassadors for their country. This included abiding by the traffic laws in the country they were visiting.
Anyone caught breaking the law in this respect could face prosecution upon their return home, Gen Al Harthi said.
Less than a week ago, prosecutors in Abu Dhabi ordered the arrest of another Emirati filmed driving dangerously in a European country.
Video footage of the man had been circulating on social media, showing the UAE licence plate of his car, as he carried out drifting stunts on public roads.
