Reckless driving, running red lights and exceeding the speed limit by more than 60kph are among the 27 dangerous offences not included in a fine discount scheme announced by Abu Dhabi Police last week.

The scheme allows motorists, who committed traffic offences in the capital before December 22, to pay 50 per cent of their fine — if they pay within three months.

Police said they would also waive traffic points for the offending motorists. Ordinarily, drivers have their licences suspended and their car confiscated if they rack up 24 traffic points.

Motorists who pay their fine within the following 60 days will get a 35 per cent discount.

And a 25 per cent discount will be applied to fines paid up to a year after the offence. Any fines paid a year after the offence was registered must be paid in full.

At the time, police said discounts and waiving of traffic points would not apply to “serious violations” and, on Wednesday, the force issued a list of the offences.

Any driver caught running a run red light must pay their fine in full, as will motorists who overtake using the hard shoulder.

Motorists who attempt to outrun traffic police or who speed more than 60kph or 80kph above the speed limit are also not eligible for the discount.

The list also includes school bus drivers who fail to activate the stop sign and drivers who fail to stop in response to the sign.

The full is list of traffic offences excluded from the discount scheme:
