Twenty-nine people stranded at sea were rescued by the Abu Dhabi Air Wing, police said on Tuesday.

Four Emiratis were among those rescued after the boat they were on broke down near Al Marawah Island, located about 100 kilometres from the capital.

Helicopters and rescue boats were sent to the location. The passengers were airlifted or taken by rescue boat to Al Marfa Hospital in Al Dhafra Region.

“Rescue operations during night is the hardest,” Brig Gen Ali Al Mazrouei, director of the Air Wing, said. “However, our department is well trained and equipped with latest rescue tools.”
