Transport chiefs have stepped up a charity drive to offer a bus load of support to needy youngsters in Dubai.

As part of their annual Stuff the Bus initiative held during Ramadan, School Transport Services made a stop off at the Special Family Support Group, a charity working in support of children with special needs in the city.

The team parked up and paid a visit to the homes of some of the families to hear of their stories before later dishing out gifts such as hearing aids, wheelchairs and leg braces to the children.

The children and their families were also invited to an iftar held at the community park of Al Khail Gate Community and take part a raft of activities, including giving the school bus a fresh lick of paint.

"Thank you for the helping young Maharukh get her much needed hearing aids, her life will become much easier from now on. We believe it is our responsibility to help and support such families and children for a brighter future."

Steve Burnell, Managing Director of STS, said: "This year we are happy and proud that we are supporting SFS through our stuff the school bus campaign. It is so nice to see how these families have come together and have been supporting each other in raising their special children. It is an absolute blessing to see smiles on their faces."

“Community celebrations and support is extremely important to us. We all need to stop and listen and understand how small changes can have such a significant impact to others. We are delighted that we can be part of making life easier for the parents and children with SFS Group. We look forward to the coming months when we can ensure that the summer camps are accessible for the children through the provision of our buses and provide an all-round memorable experience.”

Day 5, Abu Dhabi Test: At a glance

Moment of the day When Dilruwan Perera dismissed Yasir Shah to end Pakistan’s limp resistance, the Sri Lankans charged around the field with the fevered delirium of a side not used to winning. Trouble was, they had not. The delivery was deemed a no ball. Sri Lanka had a nervy wait, but it was merely a stay of execution for the beleaguered hosts.

Stat of the day – 5 Pakistan have lost all 10 wickets on the fifth day of a Test five times since the start of 2016. It is an alarming departure for a side who had apparently erased regular collapses from their resume. “The only thing I can say, it’s not a mitigating excuse at all, but that’s a young batting line up, obviously trying to find their way,” said Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s coach.

The verdict Test matches in the UAE are known for speeding up on the last two days, but this was extreme. The first two innings of this Test took 11 sessions to complete. The remaining two were done in less than four. The nature of Pakistan’s capitulation at the end showed just how difficult the transition is going to be in the post Misbah-ul-Haq era.
