ABU DHABI // Three young Emiratis are on trial at the Federal Supreme Court on charges that they made efforts to join ISIL.
The first defendant, K S S, 19, who is being tried in his absence, is accused of joining ISIL by travelling to Syria, where he had participated in the group’s activities.
Two other defendants, F M D, 24 and M A A, 22, are accused of planning to join ISIL with the help of K S S.
The court heard they had their passports and tickets ready for travel, while M A A had already departed for Turkey, where he planned to cross the border into Syria to join ISIL.
A fourth defendant, A G Z, 22, also Emirati, is being tried as a co-conspirator as it is claimed he assisted K S S by dropping him off at Dubai International Airport.
He had also helped the remaining defendants in their plan to join ISIL by helping them reach the airport to head to Syria.
The defendants denied the charges in court.
Their lawyers requested the court to hear from witnesses who would testify on their behalf.
The case was adjourned to November 23.
