SHARJAH // Three children were crushed to death after their car was hit by a speeding lorry in Sharjah on Friday.

The children were aged 14, 13 and 6. Their mother, 37, and two other siblings, aged 8 and 3, sustained severe injuries when a lorry crossed a red light and smashed into the car.

Police said the family was trapped in their vehicle by the impact of the crash, on the Al Dhaid-Weshah Road at 4pm.

Civil Defence teams were called to the scene to free the family from the vehicle.

Sharjah Police said the three children were found dead in the car. The mother and the two other children were taken to Al Dhaid Hospital.

Police said the speeding lorry dragged the car and hit several concrete blocks. The children’s bodies were handed over to the family and the lorry driver was taken into custody.

On Saturday morning, three Asian men died in an accident on Al Madam-Al Dhaid road while another motorist sustained severe injuries. Two of the men were 20 years old and the other was 21, police said.

They said a driver entered the main road without making sure it was clear, and rammed into another car.

In the eastern region on Friday, a 32-year-old Filipino motorcyclist lost control of his bike and hit concrete barriers on the Kalba-Sharjah road in Wadi Al Hilo.

He was taken to Kalba Hospital, where he died of his injuries. Police said he had been speeding.
