AJMAN// Police reported 24 cases of counterfeit goods in the emirate this year amounting to 16,225 fake bags and shoes labelled Dior, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci and Mont Blanc.

The counterfeit goods were smuggled into the country and stored in warehouses, mostly located in Ajman industrial areas, according to Brig Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police.

“The most country that exports counterfeit goods is China, then Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. For the Arab countries, they come from Syria, Jordan and Egypt,” he said.

Brig Al Nuaimi said 147 defendants have been arrested for trading or smuggling counterfeit goods since the beginning of 2016.

“Merchants either put the original goods in the front of the container or distribute the fake ones in several containers in case one of them is seized, the rest can be entered,” he said.

Last year there were 29 reports allowing police to seize more than two million counterfeit branded printer inks, more than 3,000 fake Adidas and Nike sports outfits, and more than 100,000 fake vehicle spare parts for brands including Toyota.

In 2014, police confiscated more than a quarter million fake Omega, Rolex and Rado watches.
