ABU DHABI // An Iraqi teenager is on trial at the Federal Supreme Court for having links with ISIL.

The 18-year-old attempted to join ISIL and asked an acquaintance to help smuggle him into Iraq, the court heard.

A Y A was found to be in possession of a memory card containing ISIL literature and recordings. He also operated a Twitter account where he published news of the terrorist organisation, its battles in Iraq and the services it offers to shed a good light on its operations. He also defended the organisation to any critics online.

A Y A denied all charges against him.

He is being tried under both the UAE’s Anti-Terror Laws and the country’s cyber crime laws.

The case was adjourned to March 14.
