Teams post results at Goodwood

Pupils from the UAE competed in the National Bloodhound F! Competition in the UK this week.

Two teams from UAE schools competed in the 2011 UK National Bloodhound F1 Competition in Goodwood, England this week.

Participants in the Bloodhound race, the junior league of F1 In Schools, had to develop the fastest car to shoot down a 20-metre track. The UAE pupils competed against five of the top cars in the UK.

From the British School Al Khubairat, the Team Desert Arrows car beat four of the five competitors and had a top time of 0.774 seconds.

Al Hayer Heroes, a team of four Emirati pupils from Al Hayer School for Basic and Secondary Education, recorded a time of 1.2 seconds.

The cars are modelled on the Bloodhound SSC car, which is expected to break the land speed record next year.

"Our cars are like little horizontal rockets," said Don Sankey, the F1 in Schools manager at Yas Marina Circuit.

Yas Marina Circuit and Mubadala sponsored Team Al Hayer Heroes.
