DUBAI // A soldier threatened to publicise naked pictures of a woman if she did not recognise his marriage proposal, a court was told on Wednesday.
Emirati MM, 21, was charged with multiple offences at Dubai Criminal Court, including threatening 24-year-old fellow Emirati SD with publicly saying that they had a sexual relationship and that he had naked pictures of her if she would not meet him to talk about the proposal.
He was also charged with writing two letters in which he breached her modesty before posting one of them on the door of her family home.
The 21-year-old was also charged with breaching a female’s modesty by stopping SD’s car, opening the door and trying to flirt with her. In addition, prosecutors charged him with defaming the woman by saying that he possessed her underwear, harassing her by calling more than 200 times in one day and also posing a danger to her life by stopping his car suddenly in front of hers while driving.
SD testified that MM proposed to her but she refused him because he was out of work.
“He then started harassing me,” she said in records. She noted that he would wait for her outside work then follow her wherever she went.
“He stuck a hand-written letter on my family’s house door in which he wrote inappropriate things about me,” said the woman, adding that her brother-in-law saw it first and gave it to her.
“He had texted me an image of this letter so I knew it was him and I went to police and reported him.”
The incidents happened in February and March last year, records show.
MM was not present to enter a plea so he has been summoned for the next hearing on January 29.
