DUBAI // A passenger arriving at Dubai airport has been caught trying to smuggle four kilograms of crystal meth into the country.
The Asian man was apprehended after looking suspicious in the queue at immigration in Terminal 2.
When Dubai Customs inspectors scanned his suitcases, an unusual thickness was found around their edges.
The director of airports operations department at Dubai Customs, Ali Al Maqhawi, said further manual inspections revealed secret pockets in the lining of both suitcases.
One was found to contain 2.15kg of crystal meth while the other had 1.96kg inside.
The man confessed to smuggling the drugs and planning to sell them in the UAE.
He has been handed to the general anti-narcotics department, along with the confiscated drugs, and will be prosecuted in due course.
