DUBAI // A worker stole Dh10,000 worth of signboards and scaffolding from his workplace and sold them for Dh350.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that on August 24 this year the Indian defendant, 27, waited until his workplace in Al Muraqqabat was empty before stealing 35 signboards, some scaffolding and wood.

The incident was discovered the next morning by a supervisor.

“At 6.30 the next morning I arrived and found the items missing, so I called police who arrived and checked the place,” said the Egyptian supervisor, 47. “After investigating they informed me they suspected the defendant.”

The worker was arrested that day and during questioning he confessed to stealing the items and selling them for Dh350.

He confessed to the theft charge in court and was sentenced to six months in jail to be followed by deportation.
