DUBAI // A drunken teenager who broke into a couple’s bedroom and molested a woman as she slept beside her husband has been jailed for six months.
Briton D S, 60, woke at 5am on January 31 to find Egyptian A R, 19, touching her, prosecutors said.
The woman, who works as a librarian, said she felt someone touching her thigh and groin.
D S screamed, waking up her husband, B S, who chased A R out of the villa in Dubai Silicon Oasis.
“I heard my wife screaming at A R to leave. I tried to catch him outside our villa but without luck,” said B S, 60.
Emirati police officer H S, 28, told prosecutors they were able to identify A R from a fingerprint. A R was arrested on February 9.
He told police that on the night of attack he had been at a farewell party for a friend.
He left the party at 3am and started walking around the streets. He tried to open doors at several homes without luck before coming to the victim’s villa.
“I went inside to steal money,” A R told prosecutors. When he did not find any money on the ground floor he went up the stairs to the bedroom, he said.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday, A R was sentenced to six months in jail for sexual assault and breaking and entering. However, the court referred A R to Dubai Court of Misdemeanours on a charge of drinking alcohol without a licence.
The defendant will be deported after completing his sentence.
