DUBAI// Six men who assaulted a fellow prisoner in a three-hour ordeal because he refused to have sex with some of them have been sentenced to a year in jail each.
Records showed that after the assault at Al Qusais police station, 20-year-old Emirati HE needed life-saving surgery.
Dubai Criminal Court was told that on the night of November 2, 2013, H E was approached by six men in the detention cell.
“I don’t have any history with any of them but they came to me and told me that I acted like the boss in detention so they wanted to have sex with me.
“I told them no one would have sex with me. As we argued, one kicked me on my face,” H E said, adding that 11 men gathered around him and started taking turns to attack him. Some used their hands and feet, while others had handmade knives, nail cutters and wooden sticks.
H E said he was stripped and sprayed with hot water and urine before the men shaved his head.
“Most of the things they used to assault me with were available inside detention but they made the small knives from plates,” said the victim.
H E lost three teeth, his jaw was broken in two places and suffered a deep cut in his head, as well as several other wounds.
At Rashid Hospital, he underwent two operations and remained there for 15 days. He was left with a 25 per cent permanent disability in his left ear and jaw.
A medical report stated that he now has difficulty chewing food and has lost hearing in his left ear.
F S, 21, and H M, 24, who both hold Comoros Islands passports, along with Omani S A, 30, Emirati N A, 30, Iranian H M M, 21, and A H, 40, stateless, were charged with assaulting the safety of H E and causing him a permanent disability.
