Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid is calling on UAE workers to provide an outpouring of support for an innovative initiative aimed at bringing precious water supplies to where they are needed most across the globe.
The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai has launched the 'Well of Hope", a collective effort aimed at government and private sector employees to ensure needy sections of society have access to clean water.
The project, which will take place during Ramadan, will involve workers from twenty businesses and authorities pumping water through a digital device.
The 'virtual' volume of water pumped will then be donated to those less fortunate by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.
Public and private organisations can apply to take part by contacting arabhopemakers on Twitter, using the hashtag #Wellofhope.
"There is a sense of goodness in every person, and a merciful and generous soul inside each of us," said Sheikh Mohammed.
"The aim is to remind people of the great value of water and demonstrate the difficulties hundreds of millions face to get access to water. Small gestures can make a big difference to ourselves before others."
The humanitarian campaign aims to highlight worldwide water scarcity concerns.
According to official figures, more than 844 million people across the world lack access to clean drinking water, equivalent to one in every 10 people on the planet.

Volunteers offer workers a lifeline
Community volunteers have swung into action delivering food packages and toiletries to the men.
When provisions are distributed, the men line up in long queues for packets of rice, flour, sugar, salt, pulses, milk, biscuits, shaving kits, soap and telecom cards.
Volunteers from St Mary’s Catholic Church said some workers came to the church to pray for their families and ask for assistance.
Boxes packed with essential food items were distributed to workers in the Dubai Investments Park and Ras Al Khaimah camps last week. Workers at the Sonapur camp asked for Dh1,600 towards their gas bill.
“Especially in this year of tolerance we consider ourselves privileged to be able to lend a helping hand to our needy brothers in the Actco camp," Father Lennie Connully, parish priest of St Mary’s.
Workers spoke of their helplessness, seeing children’s marriages cancelled because of lack of money going home. Others told of their misery of being unable to return home when a parent died.
“More than daily food, they are worried about not sending money home for their family,” said Kusum Dutta, a volunteer who works with the Indian consulate.
