Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has held talks with the founder and chairman of American venture capital firm Vista Equity Partners.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces met with Robert Smith in the capital on Sunday.
The two men discussed a number of potential investment opportunities within the technology sector in the region.
Vista Equity Partners owns some 50 software firms worldwide with around 65,000 employees.
Last month, Mr Smith, 56, hit the headlines after announcing he would pay off the student loans of 400 college seniors in the US state of Georgia. The debt was understood to amount to $40m.
