SHARJAH // Police have arrested a man they suspect used his short stature to break into apartments to steal jewellery, cash and other small valuable items.
Sharjah Police received numerous reports from residents that their apartments had been broken into and robbed. The offender had gained entry by smashing small windows or forcing open side doors.
Eventually, police identified Pakistani H A M, who was here on a visit visa, as the main suspect.
Police arrested the man at his apartment, where a search found some of the stolen items.
During interrogations, police say the man admitted to the thefts. He said he monitored homes and broken in when the occupants were out.
He said that breaking small windows doesn’t generate loud noises that might alert neighbours.
Police said the suspect has a long criminal history back in Pakistan.
He was referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution to stand trial.
